Kaunas Society for the Studies of Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy was established in 2008. It is a full member of International Federation of Psychoanalytical Societies (IFPS) since 2008.

Society was established by 14 psychoanalysts and psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapists, educated according to the requirements of IFPS (requirement for full members only), oriented to modern psychoanalysis and interpersonal psychoanalytic therapy in their practice and theoretical frame of reference. Persons taking interest in psychoanalysis and psychotherapy, but not educated as mentioned above, participate in the activities of the Society as associated members.

Goals:
  • Development of psychoanalytic theory and practice;
  • Participation in solving the problems of training and professional development of specialists in psychoanalytical psychotherapy;
  • Seeking for the development of legal basis of psychoanalytic psychotherapy;
  • Association of psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapists.
Tasks:
  • Participation in the activities of international psychoanalytic organizations;
  • Sharing of scientific and clinical experience;
  • Cooperation with Lithuanian organizations of psychoanalytical psychotherapy;
  • Organization of training and qualification improvement seminars and courses in the field of psychoanalytic psychotherapy;
  • Facilitation and support for the qualification traineeships abroad;
  • Organization of conferences and symposiums;
  • Support for the healthcare and psychoanalytic education of the society;
  • Preparation, publication and distribution of literature about mental health care;
  • Keeping contact with the institutions responsible for strategy of healthcare.
